Hello Dolly's

This is one of our favorite desserts. I learned this recipe from my Nana, who is an amazing cook. It's easy, delicious, and you can be as creative as you want.

Hello Dolly's Basic Recipe

1 sick butter (do NOT use margarine)
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup chopped nuts (I use walnuts)
1 -14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk

Place butter in a baking dish. I find that my 6" x 9" x 1" pan works best.

Preheat oven to 350. Stick the pan in the oven while it's preheating so the butter can melt.

When the butter is completely melted, take the pan out and evenly spread graham cracker crumbs. Follow with the remaining ingredients, spreading them all evenly. Top with the sweetened condensed milk.

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and bubbling.

Cool and cut into 1-inch squares.

Note: You can add or substitute almost all the ingredients as long as you have the graham cracker base and the sweetened condensed milk on top.
One alternative I have tried that I really like is substituting the semi-sweet chocolate chips for white chocolate chips and adding Craisins. My aunt also makes these with butterscotch chips, mini m&m's and marshmallows. Be creative!

  1. Why exactly is does it say "(do NOT use margarine)" My husband doesn't like butter in the house (Don't get me started). So, will it explode or something or just taste bad?

  2. Because butter gives this a distinct flavor that you can't get from margarine. So you could use margarine, it just wouldn't taste nearly as good!

  3. That is good to know. Although if I try it out I am going to tell Dustin it's because if I use margarine it will cause a chemical reaction and be very dangerous : ) You'll back me up, right?
